NEW YORK, NY.- Sotheby’s will offer nearly 30 European paintings from the extraordinary private collection of J.E. Safra in the Evening and Day auctions of Master Paintings on 1 & 2 February. Offering a wide range of styles, spanning from the 17th through the 19th centuries, the collection is highlighted by significant works from female artist Fede Galizia, Vanvitelli and Jan Wijnants, among others.

LONDON.- Arts Minister John Glen has placed a temporary export bar on the Rialto Bridge with the Palazzo dei Camerlenghi by Francesco Guardi to provide an opportunity to keep it in the country.
The extraordinary painting is at risk of being exported from the UK unless a buyer can be found to match the asking price of £26,796,000 (including VAT of £591,000).

SINGAPORE.- During the height of colonial rule in Southeast Asia in the 19th century, two young men from Indonesia and the Philippines sailed across the ocean to Europe, to train under great painters of their time. They steadily earned their place within European art worlds, and their successes there made them national heroes in their respective homelands.

NEW YORK, NY.- An exceptional selection of European paintings, spanning from the 14th to the 19th centuries will be offered in Sotheby’s Evening Sale of Master Paintings on 1 February 2018 in New York. Highlighting the annual Masters Week sale series, the Evening Sale exhibition will be on public view in Sotheby’s New York galleries beginning 26 January.

EDINBURGH.- 2018 will begin at the National Galleries of Scotland, as it does every year, with a wonderful tradition: the opening of Turner in January, an exhibition of the outstanding collection of Turner watercolours bequeathed in 1900 by Henry Vaughan (1809-1899) and supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery for the sixth year.

STUTTGART.- The mystery of the Messkirch Master’s identity has been capturing imaginations for more than a century. Yet even that fascination is outstripped by the captivating quality of his works. It comes as no surprise that the Swabian painter is considered one of the most prominent artists of the German Renaissance.

LOS ANGELES, CA.- The J. Paul Getty Museum is presenting a rare exhibition of three celebrated works by the great Italian painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571-1610), on loan from the Galleria Borghese in Rome, home to the largest collection of Caravaggio’s paintings in the world. Caravaggio: Masterpieces from the Galleria Borghese is on view at the Getty Center from November 21, 2017 through February 18, 2018.

THE HAGUE (AFP).- Two researchers in the Netherlands have raised doubts about a rare watercolour painting signed by Adolf Hitler, saying it appears more likely to be the work of a forger, a Dutch newspaper reported Wednesday.
